The Canadian Food Safety Institute (CFSI)   develops and delivers Food Safety Auditor and Specialist certification competency training programs for food industry professionals in Canada. Our programs are based on Canadian and International standards for training, competencies and certification of persons. CFSI also provide support, on request, to food industry organizations on food safety regulatory compliance issues such as: Implementation of ISO 22000, Internal HACCP Auditor training, Internal HACCP implementation Training, Independent Test Audits, Health Claims on Packaging, Traceability Plan,   Process Control, Compliance Audit Readiness, etc.,

CFSI and its partners are committed to:


• Delivery of skills and competencies for the advancement of food safety practices in food manufacturing, food processing, wholesale food, retail food, food distribution and food serving sectors.
• Provide skills and competency training for Food Safety Auditors and Food Safety Specialists
• Promote industry certification for Food Safety Auditors and Specialists in Canada
• Align with global concerns for providing a safe and wholesome food supply and more.
  
Food industry has been and still searching for competent and certified Food Safety Auditors. And it’s not surprising that we don’t have the appropriate number of competent and certified Food Safety auditors in Canada. CFSI have now developed a comprehensive Certification Competency Program we believe meets the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) recognized International Accreditation Forum ISO-IEC 17024:2003 and   CAN-P-913 standards. These are the currently available requirements for   certification of persons.   Qualification for evaluating applicants for our program include requirements related to College and University education in Food Science, Food Microbiology, Food Technology, job experience in the Food industry   including  hours of Food HACCP Audit training and competencies.

Our Vision and Objective

The Canadian Food Safety Institute (CFSI) is a registered not-for-profit corporation established to help address the issue of the shortage of competent Food Safety Auditors across Canada. CFSI is dedicated to the integrity and maintenance of high and consistent standards, development and delivery of Food Safety Certification Competency programs, resources and services for food industry practitioners, professionals, organizations and the public. CFSI aims at:

  • Preparing practitioners & professionals for Food Safety Auditor (FSA), Food Safety Specialist, Project Managers or Consulting Associates (FSS) or Food Safety Technician certification competency requirements.
  • Designing and delivering highly comprehensive competency-based Body of knowledge (Bok), Body of Competency (Boc) and on-site verification for food industry practitioners, professionals, consultants and organizations.
  • Developing National Registry of Food Safety Auditors, Food Safety Specialists, Food Safety Technicians and related services
  • Assisting food organizations with resources & support on compliance issues, critical food safety audits and improvement program strategies.
  • Informing food industry practitioners, professionals, organizations and the public on current food safety issues
  • Engaging in specialized food safety research, forums and roundtable discussions with food organizations, academic institutions and the government
  • Fostering strategic value-added partnerships and collaboration in the delivery of our programs with national and international partners.

 

Our Programs standards cover most food industry sectors including:

Secondary (or further) Meat processing, Seafood & Seafood Processing, Dairy Food Processing, Bakery Operations & Cereal Food Processing, Agriculture & Farming Operations, Drink & Beverage Processing,  Confectionary Manufacturing, Fruit and Vegetables Processing, Catering and Food Service Operations, Canning, UHT and Aseptic Operations, Preserved Foods & Sauces, Food Ingredient Manufacturing & Spices, Food Retailing & Wholesaling, Fermented Food Products, Oil Seed Products, Egg Processing, Sugar Processing, Food Transportation and Distribution, Live Animals & Animals Feeds, Slaughtering  & Boning Operations etc. CRSI also works in partnership with other organizations to develop sponsorship and fundraising projects to support our organization and other local, provincial, national and international charities.

 Our Board of Advisory consist of food and biotechnology industry professionals, experts and consultants.  Member of the public may request for a list of our advisory board members.
